ZORA "U.V.A."

Zora, with 2 members from old italian band Glacial Fear, is one of those bands I can't enjoy at best. Band's skill is very good (also the recording) but the final result leaves me some doubts for several reasons. Singer (and guitar player) uses a brutal and deep growl, sometimes more guttural and in dual with screaming. Guitar riffing is too similar to late Cannibal Corpse, in the third track "A-Narcos War" the likeness is quite embarassing, and the slow moments remind me Suffocation and US brutal death of the last generation. Also the drumming is in Cannibal Corpse style but it's so precise that seems "mechanical" and blastbeats are not very aggressive. I'm not claiming poor quality of the tracks but the feeling is of "something I heard too much times" and I got to put Zora between those death metal bands not so relevant. 21 minutes promo is a good listen and some riffs' grooves are really cool but I do not feel "undisciplined violent aggression" (like the title claims). I feel that kind of aggression only in the punk-style lyrics full of rebellion and hate against the system. Reading the lyrics I expected more hardcore influences in the sound and, as a death metal band, more malignity and sickness in the tracks' execution. The final track "Main Frame Collapse" is a really impressive cover of Schizo and also the noise-industrial samples beetween the tracks are good and give a futuristic touch to the entire work. There's an high dose of professionality and skilling in this promo but, maybe for this reason, the proposal of the band is too stereotyped. I hope the full length cd, coming on Malicious Intent Records, will containt more spontaneity, degeneration and filthness.
