It's a pleasure - and I was also waiting for this - to have the possibility
to make a review of an 'A Forest' cd, a band that M and MayheM of The
True Endless are karrying on. This is the third work of their discography
and their first full album, released by Wotan's Reich Production.
Those seven tracks, with an interesting record quality of a 'direct recording',
resound under the light (or the darkness) of a black metal really gloomy
and claustrophobical. Sounds are similar to one of album as 'Under a funeral
moon' of Dark Throne, even though with a bit different equalization, and
this for voice too which has thikness lower pitched. Vocal work by Mayhem
as drum parts, powerfull and wild with which are alternated in a good
way mid tempo to speed parts, playing in an instinctive but well inserited
way in each song.
In the first track "Wolf Spirit" there are atmospherical parts
that could be ocmpared to Satyricon and Judas Iscariot, and then without
let space to simple melodic riff. Those starting points continue in "A
walk through the forest unknown" too, while in "Forest"
is enclosed the most furious and speed parts of the whole cd.
This album doesn't miss black death metal atmospheres; listening to "Choices"
one can feel a wicked semen coming from masters Mayhem.
Main merit of this cd is for sure the good alternation of low and speed
parts, without to keep out fury and violence.
There's nothing left but the outro, gloomy and decadent, and to advice
this album to the most raw and old school black metal lovers. The true
one, to be clean..
