I must admit that because of the glaring title "Legion Of Grinders"
I sincerely expected songs characterized by extreme speed and violence...
but I was wrong.
After a folk intro, maybe a bit too long, CLG trample us with a massive
attack of death metal the exquisiteness of which one cannot fail to notice,
as well as the ability in playing it by these Roman boys.
Between seven tracks, quite well produced, CLG easily step from a more
traditional melodic death to furious moments with faint hints of grind
meanwhile the voice, purely brutal and monotone, carries on with the tracks.
About the voice, it must be said that it almost never departs from its
original tone, a thing that may appear a bit unalluring to the listener;
but luckily CLG, knowingly contrast the harsh vocals with some small passages
of intense screaming. This invention saves the day for the vocals, that
however are never above the lines and remains in the genre's standard,
as well as the songs themselves, very well performed but too much encasedin
the standard parameters of death metal, ending up in being too similar
to bands like Entombed or even Death themselves; you will say "what's
the bad in that?"
All in all, I can't tell that CLG fully satisfied me because I truly expected
a bit more; and not having previous knowledge of the band, the title played
a sort of "dirty trick" to me.
Nonetheless it must be stated that the technique and attitude in "Legion
of Grinders" fully convey their message creating a professional studio
work.
A final bonus, the last track of the album is "Coma as you are",
a remake-cover of Nirvana.
