MORTE INTERNA "WORLDS AND BORDERS OF WOE" - 2004

Morte Interna are a one-man-band of Giovanni Chieli (I hope I have written the name right, I wasn’t able to read the name properly on the CD).
Morte Interna have made a 13-tracks CD.
Of the tracks, no one is worth listening to.
I’m sorry to be so rude, but this “World and borders of Woe” can’t fight its way among the underground italian black metal scenario: don’t misunderstand, there is a lot of dedication behind this album, but there is a sneaking sensation that the dedication hasn’t been used completely, or there weren’t the appropriate devices to make a good job. The one-man-bands’ problem is the following: if the music is electronic, it may lack of spontaneousness and it may take a taste of “too artificial”. Otherwise, if the music is played by a living performer, it’s imperative that the author knows well all of the instruments, because he has to play all of them (obviously not all together: that is the chimneysweeper of Mary Poppins at the beginning of the film).
Riff are not so original, and there is an important factor to look at: it looks like that guitar and battery have been badly mixed. Infact, I’ve heard that the rythm is regular, but it seems like that the battery starts a second after the guitar, or viceversa, with easily imaginable effects.
Regarding the vocals, it’s a good scream, but it suffers of an ugly “echo effect”.
As if that is not enough, sometimes the guitar plays out of tune: it seems impossible, but that’s the fact. Furthermore, there is a disturbing underground-sound, due to the bad recording.
The CD artwork has been realized very well, instead: it seems that Giovanni has a lot of talent in drawing (if is he who designed the artwork).
Concluding, “World and borders of woe” is not an emerging CD: surely Morte Interna has soent a lot of time and work on this album, and I’m sorry to interrupt Giovanni’s career in this way, but the aim of a review is to talk about a CD’s recording, riffs, vocals, technical aspects, sound, vocals, ecc, ecc. And, under this aspects, this CD falls on the dust.
An advice that I’d like to give to Giovanni is to direct his energies towards the land of drawing and designing: it’s well demonstrated by the excellent artwork of the album.
